For the amateur oenophiles, the region of Beaujolais is a 34-mile stretch long from north to south, spanning 7 to 9 miles wide, just north of Lyon. All the grapes in the Beaujolais region are picked by hand, and only Gamay grapes are made into Beaujolais Nouveau.
