Best Sportsbooks to Watch The World Series

October 23, 2009 at 2:50 PM | by Whalehead | 1 Comment

Okay, okay – the matchup for this year’s World Series isn’t set in stone just yet (Go Yankees!), but you don’t need to know who’s playing to know which Vegas sportsbooks to support.

Betting on baseball is easy—unlike basketball and football, the two basic wagers are moneyline bets (which wager on the outright winner) and over/under wagers on the total number of runs scored. Sure, there are proposition bets (dubbed “props”) at some casinos, but those are generally crapshoots anyway.

Watching baseball, however, now that’s another issue. Because the ball is so small, because the camera angles are so wide, it’s important to pick a sports book with big, unobstructed televisions to maximize viewing pleasure.

(Of course you also want books that mute the sound, because Fox's announcers, Tim McCarver and Joe Buck, can be insufferable.)

With this in mind, here are our three favorites:
·Caesars Palace: In 1998, when ESPN Magazine published a list of 99 things sports fans must do before they die, the authors listed watching a major sporting event at Caesars as No. 5. Screens are big and plentiful. Service is tops. Most importantly, there are tons of ticket windows.
·MGM Grand: This book was redone in 2007, and it’s now swankier and more comfortable than ever before. Big screens provide great viewing from every angle. Another bonus: the poker room opens to the sports book, providing a great diversion during blowout losses.
·Red Rock Resort & Casino: Sure, it’s way off the strip, but this locals’ casino might just have the best book in Vegas. Huge, unobstructed screens front the room. Smaller TVs are positioned throughout as well. The VIP section—which, quite simply, rules—has its own ticket windows.
