A Glimpse Into the Very Near Vegas Future: Brits On The Strip

Three signs of a good night: you wake up clutching a poker chip in one hand, Elvis Presley’s email address in the other, and your camera seems to have magicked up pictures of you with vodka luges and feather boas that you definitely don’t recall going anywhere near. This was our morning after the BA London-Vegas route launch party at Studio Valbonne in London last night.

Mayor Goodman was guest of honor along with his wife, Carolyn, his showgirls (six of them) and his Elvis impersonator. Two Cirque du Soleil folk were doing acrobatics around the room, Rain DJ Paul Oakenfold was on the decks, and everyone was in the party spirit – including the waitress who was so sozzled that she fell over as she was taking a picture of us with Elvis.

Silly Peter Andre didn’t show, but Mel B did, looking luscious in a sparkly Jenny Packham dress, and arriving in style with a hot BA pilot on one arm and a trolley dolly on the other. She was in charge of the prize draw (a holiday to Vegas – she drew it twice when she realized the first winner had already gone home). Later, she joined Mayor Goodman and Paul Oakenfold in the DJ booth.

There was a Vegas vodka luge, feather boas galore, drinks flowing all night, and Elvis singing Love Me Tender at us, and although the Mayor and Mel B were gone by about midnight, the hard core hung around on the BA-logoed dancefloor till about 2am (we’re guessing that one, as, ahem, our memory’s a little hazy).

Earlier in the day, Mayor Goodman had met London Mayor Boris Johnson and given him the keys to the city of Vegas; and today, he’s on sightseeing duties (Westminster Abbey, we believe), before heading home on the inaugural flight on Sunday.

As for us, it’ll be a bonus if we make it out of our pyjamas by the end of the day. Last night was worth every stomach twinge though – it was almost like being in Vegas.
