Checking Into Vdara Hotel and Spa Inside CityCenter

December 1, 2009 at 8:12 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

So we've finally made it inside Vdara Hotel and Spa. Since we drove ourselves here we had a little bit of difficulty finding the entrance. Essentially, we had to doubleback down Frank Sinatra drive, cut through Caesars Palace, sit in some traffic on the Strip before making a small right turn into Harmon Drive. And not just anyone can do this.

Right now, Vdara is only open to media (and there are lots of them here) and hotel guests. After giving our name to the security guard hanging out at the ramp to Vdara and Aria, we wound our way across a driveway and pulled up to valet parking. As far as we could tell, there was no self-parking available.

The bellmen waited for our disheveled selves to stash our empty Starbucks cups before taking our luggage. After a short walk of about 20 feet, we were in front of registration. We had to wait about five minutes to check-in, as three of the desk agents were assisting other guests so naturally, we began to look about. And we snapped some photos with our iPhone too.

The Vdara is all about modern art and we'll get into some of the pieces later this week but the lobby is blissfully casino-free. And smoke-free. But don't worry, there is fun to be had. There's a bar right behind registration which looks out onto the entrance of Vdara. To the right of the check-in desks is a sort of proper lobby seating area that has sky-high ceilings with sky-high artwork. Further beyond that is the Silk Road restaurant. And let's not forget, there's also a huge spa here too.

So far, Vdara is living up to its promise of an urban escape but we have to admit, it's only been open for a few hours! Still, can we get an "Amen" for the absence of any cheesy Vegas themes? It's one of the first times we've checked into a hotel room in Vegas and felt as if we were staying someplace "normal."

We'll have more on the Vdara guestrooms (with better photos) and the rest of what's going on at CityCenter tomorrow. But now, Orlando Bloom awaits.
