Amazing Johnathan Wins Award Then Spoils It By Defending Criss Angel

December 2, 2009 at 4:52 PM | by juliab | 1 Comment

Vegas people are on an award-winning roll at the moment. If it’s not Donny Osmond winning Dancing with the Stars, it’s The Amazing Johnathan snaffling the prize for best comedy magic at the 2009 World Magic Awards last Wednesday.

Well done AJ! Unfortunately, he’s spoiled it all by writing on his website that Criss Angel’s Believe is “awesome”, “beautiful”, that “Criss is great in it” and that “if you don’t think it’s one of the greatest magic shows ever produced you are nuts.” Hmm.

In all of our interests, we’re not going to help you with booking Believe, but if you want to see The Amazing Johnathan, he’s on at the Harmon Theatre in the Miracle Mile, Tuesday to Saturday at 9pm, and tickets start at $59.95 plus tax.

In other magic news, Lance Burton will be off for a holiday December 13-25, reopening on Boxing Day. And Anthony Cools gets our own “comedy magic” award with his tweet the other day: “Fun show tonight, Glenda enjoyed her orgasm.” Incorrigible.

    Amazing Johnathan

Haven't seen the Criss Angel show but willing to take a chance on it if this guy recommends it.

I suspect the Criss Angel show might be overpriced, or be a show that plays better to magicians who know inside stuff I can't know, but if the Angel show is so truly bad, how could it stay open for so long?

One of the things I like about this Amazing Johnathan is that he seems to not play politics. I could tell from seeing his show that he really does think David Copperfield is a great magician. It was obvious.

I would think most acts in direct competition with Copperfield would go out of there way not to mention anything like that.

Probably the rule of thumb is that if a performer smiles in their billboard, they're always faking something and I've never seen a billboard of the Amazing Johnathan in which he was smiley or happy.

Maybe he just tells it like he sees it and
that's that, either that or he has a stake in the Luxor's profits.
