Located on the newly renovated atrium level, Tacos and Tequila is thankfully nothing like anything you would ever find in Egypt. Instead, the restaurant's design team, Alvarez and Brock Design, was inspired by modernist looks found in Mexico City. There are bright colors, dark woods, an abstract brushed aluminum "sombrero" and a 25 x 40 foot mural on the wall of a female matador and bull locked in combat.
The restaurant's specialties are obviously tacos and tequilas (pick your poison from the expansive tequila collection behind the bar) but this isn't just another Tex-Mex place on the Strip. Ceviches and traditional plates join the usual suspects of burritos, enchiladas and tacos ($15-23.) The small plates, or starters, mix in quesadillas and nachos with beef flautas, crab tostados and queso fundido ($10 to $12.) As usual with Mexican food, take it easy on the chips and dips otherwise you won't be able to make room for the main meal. Maybe that $10 price tag on the guacamole will help you rein in your scarfing.
Aside from queso, there is another type of cheese here or as the restaurant prefers to call it-- "rock n' roll flair." The menu features two bikini-clad cowgirls in straw hats and the servers are outfitted in Ed Hardy gear. But we can live with that when we're sipping a Casarita marg ($10) and chowing down on nachos. Besides, this is a tremendous improvement for Luxor.
What we'll go back for? A chance to try all of T&T's exotic margaritas like Spiced Apple, Mango Ginger and Pomegranate Acai.
Tacos and Tequila is open everyday from 11am-11pm.
