Okay. How is this legally possible? The brand-new M Resort has a real-deal, fully operating pharmacy on its property. Actually, it's not just on the property--it's a few hops and skips (or drunken stumbles) away from the high-limit gaming salon.

As if a pharmacy in a casino didn't sound enough like a contradiction, the drug dispensary shares its space with the hotel's Vice Shop where guests can buy cigarettes and toiletries after picking up their Xanax or Ambien refills.

Um...does anyone have a copy of Nevada's pharmaceutical laws at their desk right now?

At the M Resort's pharmacy, white-coated, comely, and most importantly licensed pharmacists beckon guests bearing Rx slips while practically taunting those who have to seek other alternatives for temporary pain relief. (Hint: these panaceas can be found at the hotel's various bars.)

What's interesting is that the M Resort has not styled itself as some sort of retirement haven, where an onsite pharmacy would clearly be a practical amenity, if not a stroke of genius. Lipitor and Viagra for all!

No, The M Resort is clearly after the Zoloft and Xanax crowd. To install the pharmacy on the casino floor seems to imply that hitting the gaming tables is just asking for an anxiety attack or a morning-after filled with self-loathing.

We’re not against the concept, especially since hotel and casino employees can fill their prescription here too. However, it’s just a little jarring to see such a blatant slice of Walgreen’s in an otherwise festive atmosphere.

But for the jittery among us, it’ll surely be a comfort to know it’s there. Just in case.
