Fontainebleau Coming to The Strip in Late 2009, We Think

March 5, 2009 at 4:07 PM | by Erika Pope | 0 Comments

With its sheer size already capturing Las Vegas’ attention, the Fontainebleau Las Vegas is nearing completion of the glass-encasing phase of its tower construction.

The big, blue behemoth – sister to the historic Miami Beach Fontainebleau – sits just north of the Wynn/Encore campus, making it the newest development on that end of the Strip in about 50 years.

The property’s opening date is still vague, but “late 2009” seems to be cited frequently as the general time frame. Other official specifics are hard to chase down, too. One gets the feeling the marketing folk can barely contain their desire to shout from the rooftops what an amazing property they’re sitting on, but someone, somewhere is holding them back for now.

Indeed, the reservation function on the Web site is not yet activated which suggests that certain key details – such as the opening date itself – are as yet very much up in the air.

We did just learn one interesting tidbit: the middle section of Fontainebleau’s expansive glass tower will be all digital, effectively making it a giant LED-type display that can be seen for miles around. It’s a decent gimmick, but we do wonder what that’s like for the guests staying in rooms behind that glass.

All we that we have on the guestrooms is that the Fontainebleau plans to put iMacs in every room. If that still holds true, we're guessing they should open this sucker up before CES rolls into town in January 2010.
