At the Excalibur a resort fee of $5 is tacked on, per day, to your room rate plus tax for a total of $5.45. This is what it gets you:
· Unlimited local and 800 number calls (domestic long distance is 10 cents/minute)
· Entrance to the fitness center
· Two free well, wine, or draft beverages at casino bars
· Two free midway games at Fantasy Faire

Hooters and Luxor also have $5 resort fees covering similar "perks." New York, New York has a $3.99 fee, The Signature at MGM Grand charges $20 and The Stratosphere charges $7.50. The Palms hotels tacks on a $1.00 for unlimited phone calls and Trump dings you with $16.50. The Westin Casuarina charges $15 and word is that Vdara at CityCenter will charge $15. Stay at Planet Hollywood, Tropicana, or Hard Rock Hotel, and you'll still pay a resort fee ($4, $7.99, and $8 respectively).

But stay fancy at Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort, and be ready to pony up an extra $22 per night. At least you get internet access with that. And a $20 slot match play certificate for Casino Montelago. And valet and self parking, access to the fitness center and spa, unlimited local and 800 calls, and seasonal water taxi to village. Oh, and golf bag storage. No word if you can deduct a buck or two if you don't bring your golf stuff.

At the Red Rock Resort a fee of $24.99 is tacked onto your bill and that includes internet service, unlimited local and 800 calls, fitness center access, daily local newspaper, shoe shine service and airport shuttle service.

The just-opened M Resort's $25 daily resort fee also includes internet access, fitness center access, free calls, choice of daily newspaper, and also nightly turn-down service including bottled water. If you've ever bought a bottle of water in a Vegas hotel, you know what a great deal this is.
