When Harrah’s Entertainment, parent company of Caesars Palace, announced the hotel’s newest expansion almost two years ago, the plan was to enlarge and renovate the hotel to the tune of $1 billion, the centerpiece of which was to be the new, 665-room Octavius Tower.

Of course, this was back when $1 billion represented a somewhat reasonable figure for a stalwart Las Vegas hotel looking to capture an even greater portion of the enormous Vegas tourism cache—and not the symbolic figure for bank bailouts and scandalous Wall Street ponzi schemes.

Needless to say given the current economic climate, expansion plans have been scaled waaaay back (hope to see you soon, Octavius Tower). But lest we forget those savvy folks at Harrah’s know a thing or two about where there bread is buttered, they went ahead with the expansion of their Garden of the Gods Pool Oasis.

As of today, the Venus and Temple Pools, as well as their humorously named Snackus Maximus Snack Bar, are open; the three new pools that are replacing the old Apollo pool, but at a higher elevation, are expected to open over the summer

The new pools will include: a private pool for invited guests only, with premium amenities and services, and two additional pools for hotel guests as well as for private parties and catered events.

In addition, the outdoor whirlpool spa area is being expanded, and three 10,000-square-foot pool villas with upscale furnishings, butler service, private terraces, and incredible entertainment systems are being added.

The Venus Pool is Caesars’ answer to a European bathing experience. Relax in the Venus Pool Club, with its luxe cabanas, oversized chaise lounges and air-conditioned bars with flat-screen TVs, frozen towel service, Evian sprays, and even poolside massages. But you might want to leave your modesty, and your bikini top, in your hotel room.

The circular Temple Pool is 10,000 square feet of Roman luxury, covered by an enormous rotunda and with the same classic Italian features—marble, granite, and ancient mosaics—that distinguish the entire Caesars experience. Oh great, more of that.
