A couple of years back, Vegas hosted the NBA’s All-Star weekend. For the year or so leading up to it, city officials trotted out Vegas’ All-Star hosting gig as proof that Vegas was the quintessential sports destination and talked themselves hoarse about it to any media person within earshot.

Of course, Las Vegas doesn’t have an NBA team – or any major professional sports franchise, for that matter – so the claim of uber-sportsness may ring a teensy bit hollow. Somehow, though, Vegas manages to retain its cred as a top choice for sports fans, likely owing to the existence of legalized sports betting here. That alone makes Super Bowl weekend and the first weekend of March Madness among the most frenetic times to visit Sin City all year.

As of this month, however, Las Vegas does have The Basketball Hall of Fame’s Hoop Hall Experience. Planet Hollywood is the location for this new, limited-engagement attraction, which features 17,000 square feet devoted to basketball memorabilia, interactive displays and – shock! – merchandise, all set to a pulsing, hip-hop beat.

Among the sights HHX visitors can expect to see are the piece of floor Michael Jordan stood on when he took his last professional shot and the jersey Wilt Chamberlain wore during the game when he scored 100 points. You can also experience a genuine dressing-down from one of basketball’s most famous coaches in the “Pep Talks” area.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and tickets are $24.50 (adults), $22.50 (seniors 65-plus and military), $21.50 (Nevada residents) and $17.50 (children 4-12) and can be purchased at the PH central box office.
