The One and Only Peppermill Las Vegas

Tucked behind the Riviera Hotel and lying slightly aslant off the famous strip is the Peppermill Las Vegas. This restaurant has been a Vegas standard since it opened in 1972 and the d�cor is inspired as it is vintage: in the middle of the room there's a fireplace near a shallow pool with a gas pipe in the middle that causes the flames to appear as though they are dancing on the surface of the water and low sofas line the mirrored walls, and enticingly reflect the flames.

You'll eat in these huge, oversized booths which are surrounded by thick stalls that reach the mirrored ceiling, and the tables are draped with funky deep mauves and blues, but it's not just the interior design that keeps the customers coming back.

Now while they might serve great basic diner fare (eggs and pancakes for breakfast, cheeseburger and fries for lunch, etc.), the desserts, namely the sundaes (enjoy mounds of whipped cream on top of large scoops of chocolate ice cream as two bananas bestride the massive creation with sticky fudge dripping down its' sides), and fruit plates (which comes with an entire pineapple, two bananas and a whole, sliced orange among other tropical treats, resembling more like a hat prop for an old Carmen Miranda musical) are our favorites. Even better, it's open 24 hours a day.

As for the drinks, the Scorpion - six shots of various liquors served in a 64-ounce brandy glass is a must. Regulars have been frequenting this place for nearly 30 years, so it's a fair guess that the Peppermill must be doing something right.
