Say you’re searching at your favorite online site for a room in Vegas, and price most definitely is an object. And let’s just say the best deal on the Strip that turns up is at Circus Circus. And maybe you haven’t gotten excited about seeing a midway act in 20-plus years and ever since you saw Stephen King’s "It" miniseries you’re deathly afraid of clowns. So, you’ll just stay at the Motel 6 or Budget Suites a few blocks away, right?

Not so fast. Circus Circus has 999 redesigned rooms in its West Tower, all of which were outfitted with an eye to sophistication, not the Big Top.

Pillow-top mattresses, contemporary furniture, in-room safes and WiFi access complete this new, more grownup version of the Circus Circus experience. By this summer, the Main Tower rooms are due to complete their own redesign, and by 2010, all rooms in the Sky Rise Tower should be done, too.

Rates for the West Tower rooms start at about $47 midweek and $101 on Friday and Saturday, which is just about $20 more per night than the lowest-price old rooms (those are called "manor" rooms but are really motor-lodge rooms.) And just for comparison's sake, that extra 20 bucks saves you from having to walk 10 minutes outside the hotel through a dingy parking lot to get to your motor-lodge room.
