Joe Pesci's Pizza Shops Coming Soon to Las Vegas

First we spotted Danny DeVito’s limoncello at the Epicurean Affair (and again at Friday’s Uncork’d Grand Tasting), and now we hear another diminutive Italian actor is launching a consumable brand. Joe Pesci, known among other things for his role playing mobster Nicky Santoro in the movie "Casino," will be opening up a string of pizza joints called Pesci’s Pizza.

His business partner in this new venture? None other than one Sig Rogich, a Vegas kingmaker of sorts and former campaign adviser to Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. We’re not making that up. Anyway, his first outpost is scheduled to open in Las Vegas this summer. There's no word on exactly where the pizza parlor will first open but we're thinking some place in the Palazzo, where "Jersey Boys" is currently playing, might be a good start. After all, a young Joe Pesci makes an appearance and Pesci himself is a producer.

There's also no word on whether or not he’s teamed up with a celebrity chef to prepare his pies or not – we’re kind of assuming he won’t be spinning the dough and slapping on the pepperoni personally.

We do know, however, that he will not be involving convicted racketeer and ex-Strip club mogul Rick Rizzolo in his new business plan. Pesci made haste to call the LVRJ’s Norm Clarke to disavow any connection between the new pizza parlors and Rizzolo. It seems Pesci’s former assistant Tommy DeVito (who, incidentally founded the group Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons) was "confused" when he informed Clarke last week that Pesci and Rizzolo were “doing the paperwork” to get Pesci’s Pizza up and running.

Oh well. The case of mistaken identity made for a titillating tale of nefarious, old-school-style Vegasness while it lasted.
