Will CityCenter Spell Lower Vegas Room Rates?

As blogged yesterday by the LVRJ, Las Vegas officials will be keeping vigilant watch to see how this fall’s opening of CityCenter impacts the city’s existing hotel rooms. Apparently, there was some speculation during a public meeting yesterday that the opening of CityCenter might lead directly to the closure, at least temporarily, of other hotels on the Strip.
Granted, this grim scenario was offered up by a rep of the LVCVA, whose job is to plan conservatively. But the opening of CityCenter does mean more competition on the Strip for tourist dollars. And competition means bargains for us Vegas visitors. Now, we’re not finance pros, but we would venture to say that before Vegas hotels start shuttering they’ll be offering up some pretty stellar deals.
True, you might find yourself paying a little more at certain hotels between now and October than you did in the past couple of months. Come fall, though, Vegas hotels might just be introducing some new and improved, attention-grabbing discounts in order to secure your business.
Even though that will be in the midst of the busy convention season, with thousands of new hotel rooms opening up we still expect to see some great deals.
