ESPN Zone Will Host Its Own Spelling Bee Next Week
Next week America will be glued to their televisions to watch the 82nd Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee and its tortured contestants as they try their hardest to spell words that most of us have never heard before in our life. But at ESPN Zone, a different kind of spelling bee will be taking the place--the second annual Sports Spelling Bee Competition.
Up to 50 competitors will go head-to-head to spell the last names of local and national sports figures from various eras. The 2009 “Sports Spelling Bee” champ will walk away with a prize package worth over $1,000 including a VIP party at ESPN Zone with five of their friends, a one night “Staycation” package at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino, an ESPN Sports Almanac and the coveted ESPN Zone Sports Spelling Bee trophy. Second and third place finishers will receive consolation sports-themed prizes.
The contest will be held next Thursday, May 28 at 7:30pm. To enter the contest, email SportsSpellingBee@espnzone.com and include your name, address, phone number, birth year and the ESPN Zone location at which they’d like to participate--in this case, The ESPN Zone Las Vegas. Best of all the contest is free and open to the public. And unlike those little ones at the Scripps contest, we can pound a few to muster up some liquid courage.
