Wanna Work Out in Vegas? Be Prepared To Pay a Fitness Center Fee

June 1, 2009 at 4:28 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

Sin City has always encouraged its visitors to overindulge. Whether it be while gambling, drinking or eating, you will never complain that you didn't get enough during your stay in Vegas (except maybe not enough winnings.)

So it would be understandable that one morning during your trip you would want to hit the gym. But just spending an hour on the elliptical can cost you a pretty penny.

That's because nearly all of the hotel-casinos in Las Vegas charge a fitness center fee. Typically, these are waived if you book a spa treatment but what if you want to work out two days without getting a massage? That means you will have to pony up at least $20 each visit. Is your 45-minute circuit training routine worth that much? You decide.

Below, we've rounded up some of the notable fitness center fees around the Strip. We've also got some tips for making the most out of using the hotel gym or...not using it at all.

The Priciest
· Caesars Palace Qua Baths and Spa charges a whopping $45 for guests to use the fitness center, the ice baths and the steam room. A $25 fee for guests is charged if they just want to use the gym.
· The Canyon Ranch Spa, which is shared by the Venetian and The Palazzo, charges guest $40 to use the fitness center.
· MGM Grand charges $35 a day from Friday to Sunday. During the week, the fee drops to $25.
· Palms Place charges $30 a day but The Palms only charges $20 a day.
· Non-guests of the hotels who want to drop in to work out can expect to pay at least $5 more to the guest rate.
· Wynn and Encore both charge $30 a day and it is only good at whichever fitness center your purchased it at. (You can't use the pass for both.)

The Cheapest
· The Las Vegas Hilton told us that using their fitness center is complimentary. Yay!
· The Flamingo Spa charges only $10.
· The Luxor charges only $10 for access to the fitness facility.
· Monte Carlo charges $19 a day.

The Average
Most hotel casino spas charge either $20, 22 or $25 fees. Some offer three-day passes for a little bit less. The Monte Carlo offers a three day pass for $45. The Canyon Ranch Spa offers a three-day pass for $110 (only $10 off.)

VegasChatter Tips
· 1. Work Out Later: Several spas drop the fitness center fees later in the day--after 3pm or 6pm. For instance, after 6pm at the MGM, the fitness fee drops to $10.

· 2. Look for Spa Specials: When booking, look for spa specials that include accommodations and discounted spa treatments, complimentary access to spa/fitness amenities or 2-for-1 spa passes. The Venetian consistently offers a 2-for-1 spa pass to guests and Palms Place new Stay package includes access to the Drift Spa amenities.

· 3. Book a massage: Of course, many of these fitness center fees are waived once you book a spa treatment. So make sure to work out the day you have your massage or you'll be out of pocket a fitness fee and a massage price. Also, if you work out in the morning and then later in the day decide you want a massage, most spas will refund your fitness center fee.

· 4. Walk the Strip Instead: Bring your running/walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses and a bottle of water and walk up and down the Strip. The distance from The Wynn to the MGM Grand is about 1.8 miles. Walk up one side and down the other for a nearly four-mile trip. And that's totally free.
