Rock n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon Is Set for December 6 On The Strip

The only type of marathons we're accustomed to doing in Vegas are usually drinking related but come December, the Strip will be invaded with actual real deal marathoners. The inaugural Rock n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon & Half Marathon on December 6, sponsored by Zappos.com, will let runners cruise down both lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard for the first time.

In unprecedented fashion, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas event will close Las Vegas Boulevard to all vehicular traffic and instead will rock with tens of thousands of runners in both the northbound and southbound lanes of the Strip. Half marathoners will enjoy the sites and sounds of the electrifying Las Vegas Boulevard for nearly the entire 13.1-mile course.

Running along the Strip will be a trip. Heck, just having the traffic shut down will be a sight to see.

The race will start in front of Mandalay Bay and run south down the Strip before making a U-turn and proceeding back up in the north bound lanes. After 7.5 miles, the runners will turn back down Las Vegas Boulevard. The half-marathoners will finish at Mandalay Bay while the marathoners will head west and circle back around the Luxor for mile 25 before finishing at Mandalay Bay. Sadly, the Freemont Street Experience won't be on the route as it was in past years of the Las Vegas Marathon.

But like other Rock n' Roll marathons in other U.S. cities, live music, themed water stations and cheerleaders will be at different mile stops along the race. And since this is Vegas, the Running Elvi will also participate and a run-through wedding chapel will be set up. Start your training and your marriage paperwork now!
