An Alternative for Housekeeping Cart Kleptomaniacs

August 12, 2009 at 5:14 PM | by Whalehead | 3 Comments

An unsuspecting housekeeping cart lies in harm's way in the hallways of The Mirage.

OK, admit it. When you stay at a hotel with bath products you like, you totally raid the housekeeping carts. Nowadays, at least at a number of Las Vegas hotels, instead of breaking the law, you can go about procuring your favorite soaps and shampoos on the level: by buying them.

Many properties—especially those which have partnered with high-end vendors to create signature brands—sell larger versions of their in-room bath products at spas and on-site gift shops. Prices range from $9.99 to $23.99. Here’s a closer look at the highlights of Sin City’s signature bath products, and a rundown on where you can go to purchase some of the goodies to enjoy at home.

Bathe (THEhotel at Mandalay Bay): Designed exclusively by the English toiletry company Gilchrist & Soames, these vegetable-based soaps, lotions, and hair products smell like lemony sugar and are enhanced with anti-oxidant botanicals. All items are available for sale in THEstore, on the first floor of the hotel.

Bvlgari Te Rouge (Skylofts at MGM Grand): The name of these products means “Red Tea” in French, and it’s no surprise that the Bvlgari soaps, lotions, and hair products found in the Skylofts at MGM Grand boast hints of bergamot, orange, figs, and hibiscus. Purchase them through the hotel’s butler service.

WET (Treasure Island) These soaps, lotions, and hair products are made by Sunbay, and smell like musk and citrus. The goodies were introduced to coincide with the hotel’s remodel in 2008. Buy them in WET, the resort’s spa, or at the logo shop on the casino floor near the poker room.

Nurture (Luxor) Concept Amenities makes a line of special products for Vegas’ only pyramid, including green-tea scented conditioner and facial gel, white ginger bar soap, vanilla-cinnamon lotion and chamomile shampoo. Guests can buy similar products in The Spa at Luxor.

Bambu (Wynn and Encore) Steve Wynn likes egg-shaped stuff, which would explain why the soaps in this tailor-made line of bath products are so elliptical. The products—soaps, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion—smell like fresh, milky lemongrass. The items are for sale at the spas in both Wynn and Encore, and four different gift shops.

    WET

I tried the WET ones at TI and they were pretty good. But the little bottles they came in inside the room's bathrooms were ridiculously hard to open. Same with the no-name toiletries at Planet Hollywood. The bottles are impossible to squeeze. Anyways, just my rant for the day!

    bedding

I was never into any of the toiletries at any of the Vegas properties I stayed at, but I did buy a pillow for my boyfriend from the Mirage after he raved about it.
