Eat Guy Savoy Five Different Ways (And It's Affordable Too)

Thank sweet Jesus that Guy Savoy has finally made its super-luxe cuisine semi-more affordable to the foodie masses. We seem to recall experiencing complete and total sticker shock when the Caesars Palace haute eatery first opened – wasn’t the 16-course prix fixe menu running around $350 per head?

Prices are a bit more pocketbook friendly these days, starting at $98 per person. That’s a steal for sampling the fare of a Michelin three-star chef. For those who prefer to play it big, never fear, there’s still a (gasp) $750 per person option.

Here’s a quick CliffsNotes peek at the five menus, how much each costs and what it’ll get you:

The Menu: Pre-theater. It includes a choice of appetizer, main course and dessert.
The Cost: $98
Highlights: Oysters in Ice Gelée, Artichoke and Black Truffle Soup, Toasted Mushroom Brioche and Black Truffle Butter and American Prime Beef Tenderloin and Paleron “à la Française.”

The Menu: TGV (French for “high-speed train,” Train à Grande Vitesse or “TGV” is France’s high-speed rail service). This menu shines on Savoy signature dishes, without a super huge time commitment.
The Cost: $140
Highlights: Heirloom Tomatoes, “Façon Tartare”, “Tomato-Lemon” Granité, Poached Monkfish, Lightly Curried Onion Purée with Young Spinach and Sherry Emulsion and Crispy Veal Sweetbreads, Petite Potato and Black Truffle Sandwiches.

The Menu: Elegance
The Cost: $190. We're unsure how many courses this entails. Details are sketchy.
Highlights: Marinated Lobster, Salad and Gelée of Summer Herbs, Crispy Sea Bass with Delicate Spices and “Poached-Roasted” Baby Chicken, Couscous of Cauliflower, Spinach Puree and Mustard Jus.

The Menu: Prestige
The Cost: $290. Ditto on the course count here, too.
Highlights: Foie-Gras “en Papillotte” and Radish Bouillon, Roasted Veal Chop, Black Truffle Potato Purée, Young Vegetables Braised in Veal Jus, and Sélection de Fromages Affinés.

The Menu: Krug
The Cost: $750 with a six-person minimum
Highlights: The Krug Room menu changes seasonally, currently offering a summer menu featuring a 6-course pairing menu highlighting culinary delights served with Krug Vintages ranging from 1985 through 1995.

I was fortunate enough to dine on the Prestige menu this spring, as a graduation gift. It was phenomenal. I'm not sure what else to say about it, except that two days later I ate at Joel Robuchon's Mansion and it came a distant third to number one Savoy and number two Bar Charlie.
