The Venetian and The Palazzo Will Now Belong to the InterContinental Hotel Group

Breaking Vegas News today...The Venetian and The Palazzo have entered into a partnership with the InterContinental Hotel Group. The detes are still eeking out as we type this, largely from hotel industry reporter Adam Kirby who's listening in on a conference call, but here's what we know so far:
· Las Vegas Sands, which owns the hotels, has entered into a 10-year agreement with IHG.
· Venetian and Palazzo will be bookable on IHG websites and guests can earn/use points through IHG's Priority Club Rewards.
· There will be a special check-in for Priority Club members, otherwise Kirby reports on-property signage will be minimal.
· Venetian Macau might be left out of this partnership.
We'll keep updating this story as more details emerge but we have to say, we're a little excited about this partnership as the real clincher here is the ability to utilize the Priority Club at the Venetian and The Palazzo.
This announcement also follows the forthcoming Cosmopolitan's entrance into Marriott's Autograph Collection, which gives the Cosmo greater reach via Marriott's own massive Marriott Rewards system.
So could this be a new Vegas hotel trend? Tapping into larger hotel groups and collections to get more business? It's not a bad idea. Guests can use and earn loyalty points at these hotels and the hotels themselves will get to tap into a huge network for sales/marketing purposes.
That said, it's not for every property. We don't see Wynn and Encore going down this road nor do we think MGM Resorts or Harrah's are right for this kind of opportunity. (Update: We forgot. Harrah's is already linked up with SPG. See comment below.) Of course, we'll have to wait and see.
