Five Places to Dine and Drink When You're a Party of One

The Pizza Place at the Wynn.

Fabulous Las Vegas is always more fabulous when you're with someone like your schmoopie or when you're with a group of someones--college buddies, bachelorette parties, hired escorts new friends or even your family.

But given the amount of convention business that still goes on in this city (despite what Prez Obama decreed in early '09), there are lots of Vegas visitors who are flying solo...traveling with a party of one...using the handle lonelyguy (or lonelygal) or hanging with their three best friends--me, myself and I. And believe it or not, there are the occasional visitors who come to Vegas alone--because they want to.

In fact, VegasChatter is actually alone most of the day. We're usually prowling the Strip by ourselves, checking into hotel rooms all by our lonesome and eating meals with no one there to point out the spinach in our teeth.

It sounds sad but we're used to it and this being Vegas, there's no shortage of people to meet. We've put together a quick of list our tried and true hits for when dining or drinking alone. The criteria for this list is good food, good people-watching, close to the casino action and full menu service at the bar. So give our list a read-through and then put your own favorite spots for solo dining in comments below.

· Pizza Place at The Wynn: We like the free WiFi and the comfy booths that line the wall. The food is expensive but if you need a place to get work done and people-watch at the same time, this is a good bet. Who knows? You may end up siting next to a Sugar Daddy (or Mama.)

· Dos Caminos at The Palazzo: The bartenders here are always super-friendly and the bar has full-menu service (We like the fish tacos and the blueberry pomegranate margs!) There's flat-screens to watch the games on and lining the liquor shelf are phallic-shaped tequila bottles which you can use as a conversation starter with the person sitting next to you. At your own peril, of course.

· Sushi Roku at Caesars Palace: Sushi is the perfect cuisine for solo diners as you can sit right up at the sushi bar and order from the chefs. Thus any of the high-profile sushi joints on the Strip are good to pop in for a bite. We like Sushi Roku for its crunch spicy tuna roll and rock shrimp tempura. The restaurant is located a bit further from the casino action on the third level of the Forum Shops but you have Strip-facing views.

· L'Atelier Joel Robuchon at MGM Grand: This actually comes in from a friend of ours who says the bar is seated around a kitchen workspace which means you can either chat with the chef about his technique or compare gastronomy notes with the people around you.

· BLT Burger at The Mirage: BLT is a low-key, gourmet burger joint from Chef Laurent Tourondel (the LT in BLT) where you can either sit at one of the small tables inside the joint or up at the small bar area to watch the chefs make your burgers and fries. It's not Joel Robuchon but the casual atmosphere won't leave you self-conscious of your single status.

    Aurora @ Luxor

My favorite spot to drink is Aurora at Luxor. They always have live music and the people are extremely interesting mainly for their diversity.

The bartenders are all extremely awesome too, and always take care of me.

    depends on the staff

I once had a fairly awkward solo dine at BOA but that was mostly because the staff were obvs embarrassed for me, asking whether I wanted to be hidden away in the corner, not knowing whether to overburden me with service or treat me like i had swine flu, etc. They spoilt what would have been a nice meal.

Likewise, LBS. I've had one bad experience there, and two really good ones. All down to the staff.

But these ones I am definitely going to try next.
