The new slots are from WMS, the same makers of the Monopoly, Wizard of Oz and Star Trek slot machines. Unfortunately, the machines were full so we didn’t get to play but we lurked about for a bit to get the drift of the game. We also remembered we weren’t that big into the Lord of the Rings books or movies and weren’t sure if we were watching Bilbo, Frodo or neither. We did recognize Liv Tyler with funny ears, though.
Even not knowing the story that well, the slot looked fun and the nerds hobbiting players hogging the machines were enjoying their wizard fantasies. There are a lot of bonuses from what we saw, which usually means more fun in the form of more “play”. They somehow come in the form of collecting miles and being awarded Power Spins. We’re hoping the method to the madness would have made a bit more sense if we were sitting but hey as long as a machine hands out winning wild reels, does it matter if we understand how?
We wanted to find out a bit more about the new slots and it turns out they just recently debuted at the Flamingo earlier this month. According to the so Vegas it was named twice blog (which also has more detail about the bonuses) the machines are scheduled to roll out to more casinos over the next few months. Red Rock appears to have jumped on the Bilbo bandwagon pretty quickly as in fact have other Station Casinos.
In other gambling news, South Point is debuting the first phase of a 55,000 square foot expansion today. This phase includes 400 new slot, video poker, and keno machines so perhaps the Lord of the Rings slots will be Hobbitating (har har) this space soon as well. Also opening are a new 175-seat race book and poker room.
Have you played the Lord of the Rings slot machines or spotted other new games? Let us know where and if you found them fun, boring, loose, tight, or otherwise.
