The First Glimpse of the Rumor Resort

So yesterday we finally got a peek round the public bits of the Rumor Resort. Tomorrow, we’ll bring you a room tour, but for now, feast your eyes on these pictures.

From what we saw yesterday, we likey a lot.

The lobby area is small but chic. Ditto the bar and restaurant – small, but you get the impression they’ve put a lot of work into it. There are also restaurant tables outside, which makes capacity a lot bigger.

One word for the garden: heavenly. There’s a huge grass lawn fringed with palm trees – the tall, spindly ones like you get in LA – and in two of the corners, there are hammocks hooked up to the palms. The fact that it made us want to clamber in immediately, despite the 115 (or whatever it was) degree heat yesterday, says a lot.

The nearest we’ve seen to the garden here is the grass around the pool area at the Tropicana, but that’s more decorative with its pretty flowers – you get the impression that this is for lying on.

The rooms are set around the grass – bright white, two storey buildings, all with balconies. And there are rows of cacti planted outside the ground floor rooms. V cute.

From what we saw yesterday, we have only two issues. Firstly, the pool area – nice as those beds looked - felt a little small for the 150 rooms, and it’s also a bit exposed – we’re used to Vegas pools that come enclosed by big buildings so even if it’s roasting you can tell yourself that you’re getting a little shelter. Here, though, it’s in the open air with only a few palms to protect you.

Second, yesterday the Rumor seemed to be under the flight path for the private jet part of McCarran. We weren’t disturbed at all by any big planes, but a couple of little jets flew in over the resort. They didn’t make a lot of noise, but you knew they were there. But then again, that probably tells you something about how quiet the whole place is – because you sure as hell wouldn’t notice that across the street at the Hard Rock.

All in all, we’re impressed. Roll on the room tour!

    Not bad...

So I guess if you stay here you could just walk over to HRH if you wanted to play table games....not bad, but I almost would rather stay at the Cosmo before I stay here.

    mm

yeah location is not great but then i suppose that's how you get a nice big lawn to roll around on. cosmo won't be able to beat that. i think this is more of a retreat than a vegassy vegas place, but then i think vegas could really do with that.

    I dunno...

I like the concept but something in the photos isn't sitting right with me.  Is it a case of pig lipstick? Are they trying to be too European with all the stark whiteness?  I can't tell but it's not wowing me.
