Scoping Out the WiFi Options at The Venetian and Planet Hollywood

Today, we have a special guest post from EastCoastGambler who details his harrowing WiFi experience on a recent trip to Vegas. Enjoy!

I usually don't mind paying for WiFi in my room if I plan on using it, but this trip to Vegas was for relaxing and that meant detaching from my computer as much as possible.

The $17.99 resort fee at The Venetian was optional, thanks to a slot tournament I was participating in, but that also meant I had to pay a la carte for WiFi service when I needed it. So I decided to scope out the free WiFi options at both The Venetian and Palazzo and further down the Strip at Planet Hollywood. Here's what I found:

PLANET HOLLYWOOD
· Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in the Miracle Mile Shops offers free WiFi with purchase. The access code will be printed on a receipt and so you know, a large beverage will cost $3-$4.
· Starbucks in the casino does not offer WiFi. This is noted on their iPhone app and confirmed by yours truly.

THE VENETIAN
· Food Court in casino and in Grand Canal Shops both offer free WiFi at a decent speed.
· Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf near the garage only has one table and very slow WiFi speed as per my speedtest.net check.
· Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in the center of Grand Canal Shops has decent speed and plenty of room to sit.

THE PALAZZO
· Cafe Presse in The Shoppes has an strong WiFi signal with excellent reach.

I now have a hypothesis about "free" WiFi only being available in casino malls (like Miracle Mile at PH), but not casino floors (outside of Venetian). Still, it will take a little more time to gather the information before we can come to a conclusion. Stay tuned!

Palazzo Lobby

I haven't tried it recently but the Palazzo hotel lobby had an unsecured signal that I've used in the past.  The only place to sit is by the pay phones.

Eos

When I was there in May the Earl of Sandwich at PH had free wifi.

Heads up!

Dukey, thanks for the heads up.  Earl of Sandwich would rule for free wifi.  There prices are some of the best in Planet Hollywood.  I'll have to check that out.

binciong, I was told both lobbies have free wifi, but I didn't know where one would sit to use besides the floor so I didn't include them here.
