That Burger Cost 60 Dollars?!

Vegas does this to many of us. We win a little (or, a lot) at the tables and we do things we normally wouldn't. On our first trip to Vegas, we won a few bucks and ended up at a strip club for the day. Another time, we won a bunch at three card poker and decided to treat ourselves to Kobe beef at Prime in Bellagio.

This weekend, a friend of ours won enough money to treat himself to the most expensive thing on the menu. Good thing for him, we were going to the Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay.

The most expensive burger is the Rossini which includes a burger made of Kobe beef, sautéed foie gras, shaved truffles, and Madeira sauce, on an onion bun. The burger was named after a XIXth century Italian composer whose love for fine food was legendary. His burger also came with a side of skinny fries and his choice of dessert. All of this for $60, which isn't so bad when you take into account a few bucks for fries and about $5 for his Nutella Cheeseburger.

The result? A decent burger that failed to overwhelm, but an awesome dessert that was the highlight of the meal. In fact, when our buddy's wife asked if she could try the dessert she was scowled at and almost stabbed in the hand. It was almost as if she was looking to take a treat from a dog.

Seriously, kobe beef is not at its best when ground up as it loses much of what makes it so special in the first place. Besides the flavor given from the marbled fat there is a certain tenderness that allows the beef to melt on your tongue. That being said, trying things like the Rossini burger, that we'd never pay for at home, are what make trips to Las Vegas so memorable for many of us.
