Is It Time To Upgrade Your Identity?

December 12, 2011 at 11:56 AM | by | Comments (15)

We love having some kind of VIP status at the casinos. It's a nice little perk that we get for helping to build these enormous casinos. Since we come from the East Coast much of our casino time has been centered around Caesars Entertainment properties in Atlantic City. After moving west, we've kept our Total Rewards Diamond status intact since it treats us so well.

Whether we're getting room upgrades, valet access when it's closed to most, line skips or complimentary drinks at a Diamond Lounge, we're always happy to have the access and to share with our friends. Last year, Club Grazie was offering an upgrade to Gold status if you had a premium card from another casino. Of course, we upgraded. Unfortunately for us, we've gone most of the year without playing much at Venetian or Palazzo and forgot about the upgrade and its discounts and perks.

It's been a while since we've seen an upgrade promotion in Vegas (they're normal practice in Atlantic City) but now the Cosmopolitan has decided to get into the game. You can upgrade your Identity players club status from Silver (the base level everyone receives) to one of their premium cards (Gold or Platinum) simply by visiting the Identity desk and asking for the upgrade.

We couldn't find any information on the Cosmopolitan website, but we did get confirmation on the promotion via Twitter where Cosmo recommends that you may want to call the Identity desk for more information if you plan on visiting in the future. We did find some added information about what the upgrades provide on LasVegasVegas.com.

Total Rewards Platinum or Diamond card get Gold upgrade. Seven Stars gets Platinum upgrade.

Mlife Pearl or Gold cards get Gold. Platinum Mlife gets Platinum Identity.

Identity Gold will get you you can get an upgrade to a terraced suite, 24-hour advance ticket sales, free fitness center, arrival amenity (we checked and it's chocolate), upgraded turndown service, one in-room movie per visit, birthday champagne toast, invitations to special tournaments, early check-in/late check-out, priority access to Wicked Spoon, access to Marquee Nightclub and Dayclub.

Identity Platinum will get you all of Gold plus personal host service, pool host service, insider tours of restaurants, preferred seating at restaurants, free spa access, access to member lounge, access to chauffeured limo, VIP check-in, priority valet, guaranteed room/suite availability, free transportation to/from the airport, and more.

Our very own Richard Lane stopped by Cosmo Sunday afternoon and was able to upgrade himself using his Mlife Platinum card. Unfortunately, his mission to see if there were upgrades available at Venetian and Caesars fell short as there were no upgrades available at this time.

Of course, upgrades to an upper-tier card have some privileges, but your offers are based on your play at the casino so if you don't plan on gambling, don't expect anything beyond the basics the tier provides. Identity promotions seem to happen randomly and without notice (at least for us), so you may want to check the Identity page of the Cosmo site to see what new things are going on, from time to time.

Cool.

So my mostly-useless Pearl MLife card can get me another mostly-useless upgrade!!

I will upgrade next month, if only because I like to have pretty, different-colored cards.  LOL!

@ericrz

lol, I feel the same. At least I can book a cheap room one night and get a free upgrade. It's the super high roller that gets the real good stuff. I'm getting an upgrade tomorrow. Hope my $100 is still in the account from the promo this summer. Forgot about that.

Was hoping...

I'm Gold with M-Life (which is no better than Pearl which is no better than Sapphire) and Platinum with TR and was hoping the combination would get me Platinum, but no such luck!

Also, when you join Identify you get $10 in free slot play OR a chance to spin the wheel for more slot play or credits at restaurants or the spa.  I opted for the wheel and won $5 slot play, but the excitement was so worth losing $5!!  This was at the beginning of November so they could have a different promotion now.

Joining

My friend joined Identity over the weekend. You get:

$10 in free slot play or
$100 if you gamble $100 and lose it (in slot play) or
Spin the wheel

My friend almost won a spa day. That said...spinning the wheel is not an advantageous thing...it's heavily weighted towards $5 and $10 slot play.

@deadflowers

Spinning a wheel sounds fun! I would still opt for the extra play, but that's how I roll. lol

@tweakes

For a $5 difference, I'd spin the wheel too. :)

Can't figure Cosmo out

Ok, so before they opened I joined online and later learned that it was screwed up.  Then, when last in Vegas I went by and signed up at the player's desk.  But I have NEVER received an email from them with offers, specials, etc.

Totally weird--I don't get them at all.

@jgbpdx

I used to receive emails, then I didn't. A friend never received emails at all. There was a database problem when they opened but I'm not sure there's a rhyme or reason as to who gets what email, but I'm told that once you visit and register or re-register you should receive emails but I'm not sure how to explain anything that happens there. :)

Match only applies to Gold and Higher

Just spoke with Identity and asked for a status match as MLife Pearl; was told it only applied to MLife Gold and higher....if anyone has any other experience or information would be interested to know.

@emerlink

I stopped by yesterday and showed the woman at the Identity desk my Diamond TR card and Gold Grazie card and she told me to use Grazie as it gave me a better upgrade.

Thanks for the note about Mlife Pearl.

A Note about Marriott Rewards

A benefit of staying at this property is that you can credit the stay to Marriott Rewards and also "some" of the Elite benefits apply.  I say some because only thing Gold will get is an upgrade, whereas at other Marriott properties it will get you breakfast.  Only Platinum gets the benefit.

Additionally if your Marriott Rewards number is in your room profile, it will credit the nights to Marriott but won't track spending to Identity.  You can still charge everything to your room and accrue points.  I wish there was a way to credit the nights for Elite qualification but opt to have the points per dollar credited to Identity rather than Marriott Rewards.

@Emerlink

I'm kind of surprised that you have to choose between Marriott and Identity. I would have assumed points just went to both. Thanks for the heads up there. That's a good point.

@eastcoastgambler

its an odd rule and a hard tradeoff....do i go for the status that will benefit me for my 2x monthly business trips or the 1x quarterly Vegas run?  ok i really should know the answer to that.

still love the cosmo...just seems like they are the red headed stepchild when it comes to marriott rewards recognition.  everything on the marriott site indicates you will get consistent benefits but it seems cosmo does things different.

@emerlink

That's strange, but this is Vegas. When Planet Hollywood was Starwood (before Caesars took over) everything worked  as you'd imagine and both clubs gave credit.

I would probably use Marriot too if I used that more regularly. I'm all about reaping the rewards. :)

Marriot/Identity/Cosmo

I asked an Identity rep to clarify their situation with Marriot based on Emerlink's comment and here's what she wrote back.

"If the guest is a Marriott member, they will have to choose either to earn or use their points strictly through Marriott.  They do have to make their resort reservations through Marriott reward center...if they choose that route.  If they choose to book directly through us or third party agents, they will be earning their points with us.
