We've also learned that the higher the limits, the more skilled the players, at least more often than not. Specifically at blackjack. Even though we can make any bet we can afford at a $5 table, we've decided to play $25 tables so that we don't get stuck with novices that don't know the "rules" of the game no matter how little they mathematically actually effect our payback.
Slot machine payout percentages are greater, the higher the denomination played. The penny slots we love to play payout about 3%-5% less than $5 slots do. (See NVGC for more specifics.)
Finally, video poker games usually offer better payouts the greater the bet. Yesterday at Wynn's high limit room we saw Jacks or Better that pays out 99.54% for $5 games while the quarter game paid out about 97%. While not a large difference, it's still a difference that's not in our favor.
Since we first started gambling, we've decided that we'd rather play less and make larger bets to increase our odds at winning. Of course, we still dabble with lower limit games for fun (with smaller stakes), but we usually play higher denominations (that we can afford) that maximize our odds.
