One Fun Thing: Encore, Wynn and Fashion Show Mall

Let’s paint a scenario. You’re in Las Vegas. You’ve done all of the obvious touristy things, but you want to know something not-so-obvious to do. Something fun and different. This series will walk you down The Strip, a few properties at a time, offering one fun and different thing to do at each. We hope you enjoy it and find something new to check out the next time you are in town.

We hope you enjoyed our first post in the One Fun Thing series. As we head further south down Las Vegas Boulevard, past all of the empty construction lots and strip malls, we find ourselves looking at three places before Sands Ave. Since Wynn Resorts treats Wynn and Encore as separate hotels, we will, too. Without further adieu, here is one fun thing at Wynn, Encore, and The Fashion Show Mall.

Encore: Encore is like the crazy younger sister (or brother, we're equal opportunity offenders here) of Wynn. It’s slightly less sophisticated, offers a smaller casino floor and has a plethora of clubs. It is for these reasons that Encore is awesome for people watching. Luckily for us all, Encore has one of the best places to do that: the Lobby Bar. With a prime view of the entire casino floor, you can kick back with a cocktail and just enjoy the sights.

Wynn: Wynn has a lot of great things to do from fabulous restaurants and amazing bars to the lake of dreams and the golf course to... well, you get the point. But, one thing that isn’t mentioned often is the Ferrari dealership. Yes, the Wynn still has a Ferrari dealership and, yes, they charge admission. But, if you are into cars and want to check out some of Italy’s finest, it’s worth stopping by and having a look around.

The Fashion Show Mall:  Ok, we promise this is the only non-hotel/casino that we will mention in this series. But, we brought it up here because a lot of people dismiss the Fashion Show Mall with all the other great shopping found in Las Vegas. But, what the Fashion Show also has is some decent restaurants. One of our favorites is El Segundo Sol which has fantastic margaritas, tacos, and table-side guacamole. The other one on our list is Stripburger which offers an assortment of delicious hamburgers. If you find yourself hungry and nearby, a lot of times these places don’t require much wait and have awesome food.

It’s also worth noting that a short walk north from Encore is The Peppermill. For a step back in time and some decent diner food, you can do a lot worse than The Peppermill. It also has a fun lounge/bar area called the Fireside that serves drinks in fishbowls (Advice from your liver: they are to share, not for one).

Do you have one fun thing to suggest for each of these hotels? Leave your tips in the comments below!

Fashion Show Mall

I don't know how many people realize that Nordstrom's has a cafe on the third level. Very good eats and there's a kid's menu, too!

Maggianos at FSM

We love Maggiano's on the 2nd floor of the Fashion Show Mall.  It has great Italian food (especially like the Baked Ziti & Rigatoni D), nice strip views, and is inexpensive.

mmm

I want to go to The Peppermill!!

Pianists....

At the Encore Lobby Bar after 8:30pm you get to listen to possibly the worst 'Duelling Pianos' set in Vegas.

Hear all of your favourite songs...get slowly murdered.

In a kitsch kind of way it's actually funny and top entertainment, but pity the poor blackjack dealers who have to listen to it all night.

(Not a patch on NYNY and quite a surprise - I'd have  expected Wynn/Encore to book a way better duo?)

Encore

I've had a couple late night gambling sessions that were awesome. Dealers are awesome. Restrooms are near the tables. Drink service is FAST around 2-3am and watching drunk girls walk barefoot into the bathroom is as funny as it is nasty.

After a while, in between hands of blackjack, we started playing "will the girl with no shoes go into the bathroom." Haha.
