Wedding chapel owners put the blame on the end of 24-hour marriage licenses which happened in 2006. God, Britney Spears ruins everything! That said, Vegas is a great place for vow renewals which can be done in any of the wedding chapels, (and even on the Sirens barge at TI!) and can be a total quickie as well.
Nobody is Having Quickies in Vegas Anymore
They don't make 'em like this anymore.
Whether you participate or not, weddings are a huge part of the Vegas experience. Between the drive-through wedding chapels, the Elvis impersonating ministers, uniquely Vegas photo ops, the out of control bachelors and bachelorettes having their last flings and the odd costumes/themes some folks display for their "I Dos", this city is known just as much for its wedding culture as it is for 24-7 gambling and hedonistic debauchery.
But not unlike many marriages, Vegas weddings have hit some hard times. According to the Fox5 news, while tourism is up (Fist Pump!) quickie weddings are down (Debbie Downer music.)
According to wedding chapel owners, the number of marriage licenses issued went down from about 128,000 in 2004 to 91,000 last year. The numbers have been the lowest since 1993.
