It's Rod's belief his big, red balls should be held every night.

Two weeks into Rod Stewart's residency at Caesars Palace and we've already seen the show twice. As we noted in our recap the show focuses on the music, transitioning from one hit to the next fairly quickly. Does that mean the show and music sets are strictly scripted start to finish with no interaction? Quite the opposite actually as we found both shows to be uniquely entertaining.

Musically the shows were different enough to notice. In our first night with Rod, he closed the evening with an encore of Do You Think I'm Sexy. On our second visit, Sexy was the last song of the main set, with another Rod hit reserved for the encore. One night, Van Morrison's Have I Told You Lately opened the acoustic set but was absent the other.

It was the differences of Rod screw-ups and crazy crowds though that we enjoyed observing the most. From his introduction of a song as one he co-wrote with Ronnie Wood but didn't sing until later, to the lyrics he forgot and covered with an f-bomb or two.

In our first Rod performance, he parted the red velvet ropes to allow one fan to sit at his side as he sang from the The Colosseum steps. The second night featured a bolder crowd that one by one invited themselves on stage until there were maybe ten ladies and a dude or two posing next to the legend as he continued to sing. Security had to step in to put a stop to the parade of fans who may have thought they were posing with a wax Rod at Madame Tussauds rather than the living, breathing version.

The highlight of both shows was definitely the t-shirt tuxedo wearing sweaty superfan who jumped, screamed, stretched, and violently whipped his hair back and forth for Rod from the front row. This guy hipped hop the hippie the hippie to the hip hip hop and he didn't stop the rock it to the bang bang boogie say he up jumped the boogie to the rhythm of the boogie, the Rod beat.

Not sure if this varies from night to night but the lady saxophonist clearly stole the first couple of songs from Rod. She was hot and talented! Same goes for Lady Trumpet and Lady Violinist. Rod sure knows how to deflect attention from his forgetfulness.

And while I enjoyed the backup girls' version of Proud Mary it seemed really outta place.

Oh and we can't forget the O face that the guitarist pulled out every time he had a solo. Hmm maybe we need a post for What Did the Backup Singers and Musicians for Rod Stewart Do Last Night?

Lady saxophonist, and then lady trumpet, and then violist took some of the spotlight both nights I saw them. Rod definitely knows how to surround himself with talents.

I thought the Proud Mary backup girl had the best chops of the night, but you're right it was a bit out of place. Especially once the big wheels kept on turning.

Craziness was the couple who saw Rod 211 times! There was a special tribute for them. Or maybe the fan that almost fell over the 1st mezzanine balcony trying to catch a soccer ball. Rod did make his way up one aisle across the middle and down back to the stage, of course being greeted by fans.
