Once we reached Laughlin, we climbed a hilly road full of casinos where our destination, Harrah's Laughlin, was set at the top of the hill. Harrah's Laughlin has a fairly modest casino with modest rooms similar to Harrah's in Las Vegas, just add a musty smell which reflects its age. The accommodations have probably not been updated since the casino opened in 1998 and the windows looking out at the beautiful Colorado River may not have been cleaned since then, either. Thankfully, the interior appeared clean, but the musty scent told us differently. We didn't spend much time in the room to care. We had only one night to enjoy ourselves. Musty scent and dirty windows aside, we had a pretty sweet view of the pool and Colorado River from our Central Tower (there are three towers) room.

The casino at Harrah's Laughlin is full of the typical poor gambling options as you'll find at most Caesars Entertainment properties (poor video poker pay tables and 6:5 blackjack) in Las Vegas. We used to read about people taking day trips to Harrah's Laughlin so they can easily earn Total Rewards points, but Caesars Entertainment must have read those same message boards and downgraded all of their games. The main difference from Las Vegas is that the gambling is cheap with $5 minimums available for all table games. One thing we liked was that there was a small non-smoking casino which had one of each table game. Except craps which was a shame. We played there most of the night as everyone we met here smoked. A lot. They were rude about the smoke to the point where it was intolerable to gamble there.

The casinos are set up on a hilly road and you can walk up and down to them on the sidewalk or take a nice riverside stoll. If we were on a retreat for more than one day and it was the spring, we'd probably taken a leisurely walk by the river. Since we only had the one night and we had to work, gamble and drink we decided to keep to Harrah's. To those who care about WiFi, there is an ok connection in the room for $11 a day. The WiFi is supposed to be usable propertywide, but we couldn't get a signal while grabbing breakfast in the Beach Club Cafe.
Laughlin seems like a nice place to visit during springtime in Nevada while temperatures are conducive to being outside. We'll likely return when the weather is warmer so we can enjoy the Colorado River in addition to the gambling. It's a soothing drive from the Vegas Strip and would be a nice way to break up a long vacation.
