This One Time, In Searchlight...

When we think of the Great West, we think of deserted roads with horses on the side, rolling tumbleweed and saloons. We came across this vision on our way to our day trip to Laughlin. The only town inbetween Vegas and Laughlin is the awesome little town of Searchlight. It's about one mile long (it's actually 13 miles square) and somehow has at least four different speed limits. Searchlight is most known for being the the hometown of Senator Harry Reid.

Searchlight is about 45 minutes from The Strip and, literally, the only place to fill up on gas, get food or use a restroom on the way to Laughlin. In fact, you can do that at Terrible's Casino, which has about 30 slot machines, 2 bowling lanes, a gas station, a McDonald's and even a robot cowboy greeter.

There are a couple of other casinos and gas stations, but nothing as fancy as Terribles, which is a mega-mall by comparison to the rest of town.

We are not the type that are used to being in really (really, really, really) small town America, but we found it in Searchlight and we found a new infatuation. This town of 2,000 touched something that we never knew we had inside. Perhaps, it tickled a John Wayne bone that we never knew we had. Maybe it was just that Searchlight was unlike anything we've ever experienced.

There's not much to see or do in Searchlight, but we think this is a must see for anyone that has a soft spot in their heart for the Old West. The next time our parents are in town we will definitely take them to Searchlight and we are going to return soon without them, too. If nothing else, we want to check on the robot greeter at Terrible's.

Robot Greeter

Is that Sheriff looking guy the robot greeter?  I really feel the need to see that in action for some strange reason.  Damn you for not having the video!  Now I have to drive out to Searchlight for robot cowboy.  Seriously.  Might be better than anything I've seen at CES this week.

@Mr. P

Yes, he's the greeter...he speaks at random times. I waited a few minutes to video him but I wanted to get back on the road. He gives me reason to return!

BTW, the pic of the casino is the entire casino. Haha.
