Wine From Vegas? Kinda

It's no lie. We enjoy our cocktails. Last year, we learned about Labor Wines which has ties to Vegas. Labor Wines was started, in part, by Corey Nyman, who you may remember from his infamous tweet last year about Border Grill charging for water. Nyman lives and works in Vegas in the food and beverage business. He took his daily labor of love and turned it into Labor Wines. (See what we did there?) Labor Wines is a small company run in a very DIY (Do It Yourself) style that we love, so we were intrigued.

The first vintage (2009) is a Pino Noir with fruit from six vineyards in the Yamhill-Carltron and Chehalem Mountains in Oregon. It was limited to 280 cases. We like Pinot Noir so we decided to try some. With a retail price of $25 a bottle, we decided to try multiple bottles for consistency. Our major takeaway is that we like this wine and it's very easy to drink. In fact, our first tasting started at the beginning of a movie and by the time the movie was over so was the bottle of wine. Uh oh.

Labor Wines has plans to continue growing the winery, raising production on their 2010 Pinot Noir and launching a Pinot Blanc from the 2011 vintage. Nyman says "It was very important to me to have Las Vegas as the first city in the country serving Labor Wines as it is my home. We will continue making sure that Vegas gets the most of our wines for years to come as we grow here and around the country."

Labor Wines is still a small company, so you won't find it everywhere. It can still be considered a rare, special drink. If you want to impress your friends, it's available for purchase direct from Labor Wines by calling 855.503.9463. You can get more info at laborwines.com, just know that they can legally only ship to 30 states. If you're hanging around The Strip you can grab a taste by the glass at Blue Ribbon Sushi as well as Vesper Bar at The Cosmopolitan. It will also be available by the bottle at Comme Ca and N9NE Steakhouse coming down the line.

Full Disclosure: We know Corey personally, but we'd say if his wine was crap. It's not crap (thankfully). We paid full retail price for each of the three bottles and will probably purchase more when we finish the last bottle.
