It's a Sure Bet, Linemakers Will Return

January 16, 2012 at 2:20 PM | by | Comments (3)

On last week's episode, the guys of "The Linemakers" revealed that they were renewed for a second season. The first season will end a couple of days before the Super Bowl so if you haven't heard of it yet, you still have a few more episodes to check out. The exact dates for the next season haven't been announced, but it's expected to begin shortly before the 2012 football season.

In case you haven't been watching, "The Linemakers" is a weekly one-hour sports show on Discovery HD Theater featuring veteran sports book operators analyzing the economics of the sports wagering and fantasy sports industries. It takes place at the South Point Casino and Sports Book.

While it's always great to hear insight on sports wagering from people that have been around it for longer than we've been alive, we were slightly put off when we found out that their website wasn't really an extension of the show, but a service selling picks and information deeper than shared on the small screen.

Maybe the show is just an infomercial for the website. We don't know and we don't really care. We enjoyed watching guys talk sports that have the same kind of "trying to be young and cool" humor that our dad has. We watched or listened to the show every week for the information. The info went into our mental database to either confirm our football picks this winter or give us doubt. As with all types of gambling, the more we know, the better off we'll be. Our DVR will be ready for season two next football season. For now, we have a few football games left in this season to enjoy.

The Show

Did the show change/improve much over the course of the season? I watched the first couple episodes but was so bored to death I removed it from my DVR.

I could see where it might appeal to hardcore sports gamblers though, especially those focusing on football.  Just wasn't for me.

Guilty

I ripped the show for it's unintentional comedy when if first came out but I admit that I have watched every episode (also DVR'd).  I really don't learn much or ever feel like there is a bet I have to make after watching the show (they usually split on opinions anyway) but it is food for thought and once in awhile they provide a trend that interests me.

I figured that to the be the case for the website and have never visited it and probably never will but I will continue watching the show.

Vinny seems the sharpest (pun intended) and would like to see him moderate the panel and guide the discussion.  They could also remove one or two of the guys and rotate them as it's not necessary for all of them to be on every show.

I don't have a problem with it but this must be the first non-fiction show in a couple of decades where you see someone smoking (Richie B).

@Mr. P

The show probably got worse as the season went on. Haha. I think it's the for the hardcore sports fan (gambling or not) that likes info they won't see on ESPN. That's the appeal of most fantasy or sports betting sites/shows/podcasts for me.
