There is a lot going on downtown. There are hotel renovations and new bars everywhere we look. We're cool with change, as long as it's for the better.

Fitzgeralds is undergoing renovations and possibly a name change since it will be owned by the same people that operate the Golden Gate. Part of those renovations, as Denver Gambler has reported, will be a remodel with a "vintage" theme.

One of the major renovations at Fitzgeralds The D Fitzgeralds happened earlier this month as they closed their poker room permanently. We're still poker virgins (we may never play poker so much that we lose our virginity) and weren't very familiar with the room, but comments on All Vegas Poker tell us it was a dirty space in the corner of the second floor of the casino with lots of room and overall fairly basic.

The entire second floor will be renovated which means we can say goodbye, at least temporarily, to the 9/6 Jacks or Better video poker games we love.

We're not sure if the poker room at Fitzgeralds is just being remodeled or if it will be closed permanently. We also don't know if Golden Gate will build a poker room with their renovations, although, a high limit pit is in the works. We also haven't heard their plans for a sportsbook yet either, but we will let you know when we find out.

Fitz Renovation Plans

The entire upstairs is going to be remodeled with a "darker" feel. Think lots of wood, some leather. Like a vintage steakhouse.

From what I understand, they are going to take the Vue bar, expand it, and wrap it around the building. Also possibly in the works will be exterior escalators to the second floor.

Look forward to seeing the renovations.
