The holidays in Las Vegas can be both awesome and awful at the same time. There is definitely an excitement and energy in the air that comes with the influx of people that can turn the fun up a notch. On the other hand, the influx of people is just that... an influx of people that get in the way. While we love to party, we don't always want to.

We weren't in the mood to deal with other people the other night and used the holidays as an opportunity to try a bar a little off the beaten path that we've heard about a lot and is mostly frequented by locals -- Frankie's Tiki Room.

We figured that being away from the chaos and having a fruity drink would be a nice way to catch up with friends. While the catch up was nice, the drinks weren't. We rarely face a drink we can't finish, but this night we did at Frankie's. We wouldn't mind if our tiki drink was too fruity, but this drink was too boozy. (GASP!) We never thought we'd say that, but there was just a bit too much bourbon in our Lava Letch. Our friend tried a Bearded Clam that was similar to a mojito, but it wasn't as refreshing as expected, either.

Walking into Frankie's Tiki Hut felt similar to walking into Jeff Spicoli's van. We haven't been in a bar this smoky in a while. Oddly enough the smoke seemed to lessen the longer we were there. Maybe we just got used to it. The vibe at Frankie's was great, otherwise. The decor was what we expected and wanted from a tiki joint. If the drinks were on par with what we wanted, Frankie's would definitely become a regular place to go hang when friends are looking to escape The Strip. With that said, we will return but we'll probably just stick with a vodka drink.

Tiki Drinks

Is it possible to make a good tiki drink?  The ones I've had usually have so many ingredients they tend to fall either too boozy but usually too fruity.  Yet I still keep trying them.

Good use of a Spicoli reference.

@Mr. P

I would be cool with too fruity, as that was what I was expecting. I've never had a drink that was too boozy for me, but I also don't normally have that concoction. Since the trip, I've learned that tiki is a very challenging style of drink making. I'll stick to beer and vodka.

Wonder how many people even know Spicoli now. That movie is ollllld. Haha.

@EastCoastGambler

I had to Google that reference. lol

@702Becca

I figure half the readers will get it and the other half don't even know what a Tiki Bar is...or you. lol
