Trop Hikes Resort Fee Again

We're not sure exactly when it happened, but sometime between mid-September and now, the Tropicana raised its resort fee. Again.

VegasChatter fan Daniel Steiger gave us a heads up about the hike over the weekend. Perhaps, it was an early holiday present from the Trop which gifted us with its last resort fee increase right before Christmas last year.

So, just how much does the Trop want you to pay now for the privilege of staying at its, erm, resort? $19.99 a night. For that, guests will get high-speed WiFi, free access to the fitness center, pool and Jacuzzi (hey, we're pulling this directly from the website), 50 percent off specialty and well cocktails, beer, and wine at the Tropicana Lounge from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily... and more! Yes, we can just sense your excitement.

Before this latest bump, the Trop had once priced its resort fee at $14.99, $9.99 and $7.99, respectively. Just another $5 bucks and Tropicana will be in the same league as Bellagio and Wynn. (Now filing this under things we'd never thought we'd write.)

I don't stay there, but if I was ever inclined, that would bring me to my senses.  Can't think of a better way to drive customers to a better property.  I'm staying at the HOTEL next month, I know I'm getting dinged 25 a day, but at least the property is worth,

Resort fee's?! Don't even get me started. This is Exactly why I will continue to book my rooms at CET properties. Tropicana may want to turn things FULLY around over there before they start chasing away customers. MGM is the same nonsense. I get some pretty decent offers from Mirage and MGM Grand, not fully comped, but decent. And they are NEVER willing to waive resort fees. When I book my "comp" rooms with CET....it's COMPED....no hidden nonsense. Maybe it's just me, but i'm in Vegas to gamble, drink and eat. Not to worry about hitting the gym everyday (as I'm too hungover in the a.m for that:) And charging hotel guests for use of the pool?!!! DUMB!!! The guys who built Vegas on taking care of the guests (Bugsy Siegel, Meyer Lansky, ETC...) are probably turning over in their graves with the way Vegas has become!!!!

Why, why, why...

If they'd just quietly bumped up the room prices $5 across the board, we'd never be talking about this. Instead, they look like a bunch of greedy bastards who don't know what they're doing when it comes to running a hotel.

DoubleTree

I asked around and I hear after DoubleTree takes the reins of the hotel, there's a "possiblilty" that the resort fee will be dropped entirely in lieu of simply a higher rate.  Think $99 weekdays; $149 wknds.  BUUUT you will also get Hilton Service and that heavenly cookie at C/I :) And for HHonors member, a true Hilton brand that will offer full HHonors benefits;  the Grand Vacations do no participate in the HHonors program(free upgrades, free wifi, free breakfast, etc.)  With this simple fact, I think the Trop will do just fine :) Glad to see.
Also from what I hear.. a similar plan is in the works for LVH (renovate, repitch to Hilton)

Tropicana Joining Hilton Family

The Trop is joining the Doubletree/Hilton family of hotels in December, so that would explain the rate hike. Gotta support Paris's blow habit.
