Cirque Du Soliel Makes A Movie

Zarkana is Cirque du Soleil's latest spectacle, but for fans wanting more Cirky Cirky and who can't wait for the King of Pop's Immortal tribute or those that just can't make it to Vegas soon enough, there's another opportunity to get soaked in Soleil right around the corner.

On December 21, the folks behind KA, LOVE Viva Elvis and now Zarkana make the jump from stage to screen in a 3D spectacular movie. Because anything less than 3D just wouldn't be spectacular enough. Cirque brass has teamed up with the makers of Avatar and The Chronicles of Narnia (this one, not that one) to create Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away 3D.

James Cameron will throw audiences into a 3D world of Cirque that features acts from the seven Vegas shows: O, KA, LOVE, Mystere, Viva Elvis (oops), Zumanity, and yes, even Believe. But, before we assume Worlds Away is simply a three-hour commercial the movie's website points out the story of two young lovers on a journey to find each other in that crazy Cirque world. The 3D technology promises to have audiences leaping, soaring, swimming and dancing with the performers.

Based on what Cameron did with Avatar (remember going over that cliff?), if Worlds Away shows up in IMAX format the promise of immersion may not be that far off. And, with Hollywood movie magic, might we expect performers to complete feats never before possible? Maybe. At the very least, we expect not to see anyone fall off a trapeze. Which may or may not be a good thing. Check out the trailer for yourself and let us know if the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory narrator has you craving Cirque candy.

Cirque Week attendees will have an early opportunity next month to screen the movie on December 3 and 7.
