After enjoying a phenomenal filet mignon at Honey Salt, we decided that we would try the filet again. Our filet mignon at N9NE was a perfectly cooked medium with very little salt and pepper seasoning. While the meat itself was good the filet reminded this writer why a Strip (preferably NY Strip) is his cut of choice. Since there is very little fat on a filet mignon, more flavor is allowed to escape from the steak. That lack of flavor made the center of this 12 ounce filet mignon a little bland. Fat = flavor, never forget.
The steak wasn't bad by any means, it was just nothing special. Continuing onward, we decided on creamed corn and gnocchi with truffle cream for sides. Both were fine, but fine isn't anything special.
We closed dinner out by sharing an order of doughnuts and chocolate cheesecake which came with an orange ice cream. The doughnuts were more like zeppole than actual donuts. The dipping sauces of three different chocolates and peanut butter were ok. The chocolate cheesecake was good and, when paired with the orange ice cream, was quite nice.
When all is said and done dinner at N9NE Steakhouse was good but, not great. Besides the fact that Reggie Jackson was somewhere in the restaurant during our visit, it wasn't anything special. We wouldn't say no to dining at N9NE steakhouse again, but we also wouldn't go out of our way to visit the Palms for steak.
Note: Dinner was comp'd because our friends are fancy. Our opinions are our own and maybe not as fancy as our friends.
