Things may not be official official until January, but the Tropicana is already an acknowledged part of the DoubleTree family.

VegasChatter fan dac007 let us know over the weekend that the Trop, excuse us, Tropicana Las Vegas - A DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel is already on the DT website:

It's a done deal. I'm a Hilton Honors member and they already have the hotel on the website, won't be taking any reservations until December but they have taken that hotel over. I can't wait, I'm a gold member and they always upgrade me for free to a suite.

And, while dac007 is excited about the suite benefits of this union, we're thrilled to confirm that DoubleTree's famed cookies will be served up to guests (hey, we all have our priorities):

Be warmly welcomed with a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie before settling into a stylish, residential-style guest room that evokes the atmosphere of a breezy beach getaway.

Tropicana is listed as a six in the HHonors rewards structure. That means a one-night stay will require 40,000 points. There are only two other tiers ranked higher in the Hilton system.

12.17 Update: Doubletree has now changed the date for Tropicana reservations to January 2013.

Also a HHonors Gold, and I don't think I've ever been offered a suite upgrade -- in fact, they're excluded from the status upgrades in the fine print.

That said, I do always get an upgrade, so I would expect that at the very least, I would always be guaranteed at least a high floor or a decent view here.

The popularity of Vegas makes some accommodations quite pricey. Luckily there are many ways to procure a hotel stay well below the going rate, starting with booking a trip at the right time and being flexible with where you stay.
