The Bumbys Are Back To Appraise You, If You Still Dare

November 5, 2012 at 7:04 PM | by | ()

In a late substitution, The Cosmopolitan shifts from ethereal to practical. Artist duo, The Bumbys, return for a residency in the third floor P3 Studio starting November 7. They'll be providing "fair and honest appraisals of your appearance."

They'll look at you. Think. And, type up a thoughtful appraisal. While completely masked and anonymous.

And, if that description leaves you thoroughly puzzled, you really need to read our review of our Bumby experience back in March. If you are at the Cosmo in November, the pair are a must see.

The Cosmoplitan's artist-in-residence series is very strong this season. Eloise Fornieles was supposed to occupy the space for the next few weeks, but she is no longer on the creative calendar. Perusing her previous work, we very curious about what she had planned:

"The space will consist of a seascape which will cover the floor like a soft, sea-like spread. A wooden boat will sit within the sea and Eloise will sit within the boat... The audience will be invited to write on paper a hope or a fear and place it in the boat. Fornieles will read each note, which she will then stuff into the small holes and cracks of the boat. Once the performance period ends, the boat full of notes will be taken into the desert and lit up in flames."

No word on why we will miss the boat, but Gill and Jill Bumby will cover until December 2. Performances start at 7 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays and 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. We highly recommend you stand on line to be sized up by the masked appraisers. It's free and you'll take home a truly unique and very personalized memento.

11.6 Update: The Cosmo tells us that Eloise Fornieles will still be in residence as well. She will share the space with The Bumbys during the same dates.
