The Big Game Was So Sunday, It's March Madness Now

February 7, 2012 at 5:49 PM | by | Comments (5)

We took in our first Super Bowl on The Strip and it was as much fun as we could have imagined. There were so many people everywhere we turned that the energy was great. We felt a buzz in the air that was different from a normal night in Vegas. Maybe, it was that we were an eager part of the buzz.

Well, the Big Game has passed and just like that Vegas is ready to move on. The next major sports event that we get to enjoy is March Madness. While there are games for the NCAA college basketball tournament on March 12, the real action begins March 15-16 where there are 32 games on each day.

March Madness is bigger than the Super Bowl when it comes to sportsbooks in Vegas. Last week, we were told it's not uncommon to see people camping out at the sportsbooks at 3 a.m. to ensure they have a seat for the action. We knew the sportsbooks were busy, but that's a little extreme. Games begin at 9 a.m. Pacific time and go throughout the entire day. Keep in mind, too, that it's not just length, it's width. Typically, there are multiple games on at a time for those of us with short attention spans. There is always something happening. The first two days of March Madness may be the best days of sports action in a given year.

Much like the Big Game parties, we can expect to see countless March Madness parties. Already LBS Burger at Red Rock Casino is offering one free draft beer to patrons who present a ‘dead’ (losing) sportsbook ticket during March Madness, from March 13 through April 2. If hanging with the hotties while you watch 15 straight hours of hoops is more your speed, there are already specials being offered at Crazy Horse III.

We'll keep you updated on March Madness viewing events like we did with the Super Bowl, but for our dollar there may not be a more awesome experience than sitting at the sportsbook with college basketball fanatics from all over the country.

MM in LV Yahoo Group

We actually have a Yahoo Group for enthusiasts of March Madness in Las Vegas and always welcome new members to share info about what is going on around town so that we can all benefit and have a great experience during the four greatest days of sports in the greatest place to be for it.

Very Cool!

March Madness in Vegas

Not 32 games a day

There are 32 games OVER those 2 days, but not on each day.  If you are losing it only seems like it.

@binciong

sweet! thanks for passing on.

@keithdylan - correct! that's what I get for writing hungover after the super bowl. :)

Now a Facebook Group too

We're using the FB group more than the Yahoo Group for now as it's easier to share links, post comments, etc.

It'll also be more functional to use during MM week as members can post photos, brief reviews, etc from their phone which you'd be more likely to do with Facebook than Yahoo Groups.
