The Golden Nugget More Like The Smokey Nugget Today
In some weird Vegas news, The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in downtown Las Vegas was the victim of arson today as a small fire broke out, forcing evacuation of guests from the hotel's upper floors and leaving one person critically injured. However, it might have been that person's fault.
The injured man, a hotel guest, was found unconscious in a 22nd floor hotel room, according to the AP. And a Golden Nugget rep says the guest should not have been in that part of the hotel because it was under renovation. The rep also added the fire was "intentional." The plot thickens but we're guessing someone was pissed off about losing too much money while gambling.
The AP also reports that while about 60 guests were evacuated from the 21st floor and nine more guests from the suites at the top floors of the hotel, casino play on the ground floor was not interrupted and the total damage was less than $1,000.
Probably more worrisome is that guests were first told to remain in their rooms and then were later told to evacuate. However, a rep stated that an all-clear was given to guests after the hotel couldn't find the fire but then an evacuation order was issued once the fire was found.
Otherwise, it was a small fire and things could have been much worse. Let's drink to that!
