Wynn Folds on Foxborough

Check out the lobby for a hotel you'll never check into now.

It appears that even everyman sweaters couldn't help Steve Wynn win over the folks of Massachusetts.

Earlier today, Wynn folded his high-stakes plan to build Wynn, The Lodge in the town of Foxborough. The Boston Herald reports that the suspension comes the day after the election of two anti-casino candidates:

“It sends the message that the town of Foxboro isn’t interested in having a casino sited in the town of Foxboro,” winning candidate Virginia Coppola told the Herald last night.

“Mr. Kraft and Mr. Wynn, when they originally announced the proposal, they said if the town of Foxboro had any hesitation they would back off. We started protesting; they did not back off. This is the referendum they’ve been asking for. It tells them they should back off.”

The paper reports that Wynn would have needed a majority vote by the town's Board of Selectmen to move forward. Now, all eyes will turn to Caesars Entertainment and its hopes of placing a resort-casino at Suffolk Downs, a race track in east Boston.

Meantime, the website for WynnFoxboro.com is still live if you want to check out more renderings of what could have been.

So much for the Steve Wynn Ski Lodge and Casino complex. (The renderings -- now removed -- looked like a ski lodge).
