The MGM Grand Check-In Lounge at McCarran Does Not Want You to Stay Long

We've praised the convenience of the MGM Grand check-in counter at McCarran Airport before. It saves you from standing in long, torturous lines at the hotel (and works for Signature stays as well). But, during our recent stop, we noticed something not very welcoming.

The outlets in the mini-lounge are sealed off with DIY label-maker labels that say, "Not for Public Use." (Up close shot below.) We spotted several of these labels in the lounge which was kind of a bummer as we just wanted to plug in our cellphone for a second to check our messages. But, it looks like MGM doesn't want any travelers (MGM guests or not) to squat in their lounge working or worse, chatting on their phones.

Fortunately, we were able to get our rental car fairly quickly and charge our phone then. Guess this is just another example of how nothing is truly free in Vegas, not even the outlets.

It looks bad

They should find another way to do that.
And they should point out any minor conveniences they might offer at that location. I have checked-in at that location a few times now and am in such a hurry that I don't know( beside room check-in) what they might offer - if anything.
I will say that I never have success at their airport check-in for tipping a $20/$50 and getting even a tiny upgrade. It seems to work fine at the hotel, but not at the airport check-in. My husband thinks it is because there are 2 or 3 clerks in a tiny space and one is a supervisor so.... none of the clerks want to take a chance in front of the boss.

That is probably very true

I was able to ask for a quiet room with a view and because it was a Sunday, there was lots of availability so the agent was able to be real flex. But no random upgrades, not even with a pregnant belly on display.
