Is Binion's Burger The Best Food Downtown?

EastCoastGambler just found his new favorite restaurant downtown and readers agreed. But, if a $40 steak dinner is too glorious, how about a $4.95 meal?

Binion's Famous Burger (the sign says it so it must be true) is served 24 hours a day at Binion's Cafe with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions and a side of potato salad. It's a $4.95 downtown cafe burger -- no Gruyere cheese fluffing up the plate here. Fancy here means substituting fries for the tater salad ($1.50) or adding Cheddar, American, or Swiss cheese ($1.25).

And, at least one Binion's's fan wants to pit Binion's Burger against all other food downtown. All other food. They (practically) wrote it so it must be true. Binion's posted the full feedback form left from one particular diner on their Facebook page:

This particular VegasChatter writer has sampled the Binion's Burger multiple times and have to agree it's pretty solid. Simple, but solid. The beef is freshly ground never frozen, hits the spot 24 hours a day, and comes with a price tag that may, in fact, be the best in all of downtown. Or, Vegas for that matter.

Another burger is offered on the menu for diners looking to splurge -- or more likely those looking for a hangover cure. The Hangover Breakfast Burger starts with off Famous, but gets topped off with a fried egg, two bacon strips, two slices of American cheese, and a side of french fries or breakfast potatoes for $9.75. Bacon, egg, and breakfast potatoes. That may be the best downtown burger we've had. No -- it is. Bacon makes everything better. Eggs make everything fantastic. Either way: Famous or Hungover, both burgers are great values that satisfy.

The cafe itself buzzes with diners pretty much at any hour. The decor is cafe norm spare a couple vintage photos of the original cafe. We loves us some vintage. Sit at the counter and you'll likely meet a cook that's been in Binion's kitchen for years. We loves us some chatty experienced cooks.

Might an expansion be in the cafe's future? Binion's Facebook rep comments in response to the cafe's busy traffic that they "want to expand it, just gotta get some clearance first, hopefully you won't need to wait on your next trip." We're all in favor of anything that gets our hands on a hangover cure that much quicker.

This place

Has been packed every time I've walked in with a line of people waiting. I don't do lines, so I usually scamper down to DuPar's for pancakes when I want a quick, filling meal after a few too many drinks.

Coffee shop

All they have to do is reopen the coffee shop.  It's sitting right there in great condition.  No lines, more customers served, everyone's happy.

I truly do miss my late-night treks down the stairs to Binion's Coffee Shop.  Have to agree that the burgers are delicious, but the staff is overwhelmed at times, seating is cramped, and they even had to move the cash register onto the casino floor to clear up the line at the counter where the register used to be.

It's good, but Hennessey's down the street is one of the best burgers I've ever eaten anywhere.

re: Hennessey's

Good to know Bushman, thanks. I never seem to make it past drinks there.  A Binion's burger is just so easy since its not usually far from gambling  but will note the Hennessey's burger for a future visit.

@Sam: Yeah, the cash register move didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference did it?  Other than push the cashier onto the floor like you mentioned.

Moved to the top of the list! Thanks Bushman.

This is Better El Cortez

The half-pound burger/drink special in the coffee shop at El Cortez can't be beat.
