The magic word for Vegas entertainers in 2013 seems to be residency. Just off the top of our head, we have Roseanne, Tim & Faith, Shania and CeeLo who'll be spending some extended quality time in Las Vegas this year. And, now, Boyz II Men have signed on to perform 78 shows at The Mirage's Terry Fator Theatre. Only on weekends, their tenure runs from March 1st through December 29th. Seventy-eight shows! This comes off the back of ventriloquist Terry Fator rearranging his performing schedule, presumably to spend more quality time with his wife. And, a smart way for the Mirage to not let the room go dark.
The Boyz, now hovering around the 40 years of age mark, are former kings of R&B ballads and acapella performances. Among their 60 million in record sales was a 1991 hit called "Motownphilly." And they'll be competing directly across the street from Human Nature, the Australian quartet, who'll be putting their spin on the Motown sound at The Venetian starting January 19th. We're starting a rhythm and blues death match right here, folks.
No strangers to the city, founding Boyz II Men member Nathan Morris explained, “We’ve been dreaming of this day since we performed an extended holiday show two years ago in Las Vegas.” That was at the Flamingo. It's a much nicer room at the Mirage.
Tickets priced at $39.99, $49.99 and $59.99, not including tax and service fees. Dates are listed at the Mirage's website. We'd write them all out, but 78 is a big number.
To get you in the mood, here are the Men performing "End of the Road." There are far worse final destinations than a Vegas residency. Tickets are on sale now.
