The Wait Is (Finally) Over For This Trop DoubleTree Mashup

The Tropicana was originally supposed to start taking reservations as a DoubleTree this month, "sometime" in January. Then, the hotel said it would happen earlier, "sometime" in December. Then the date switched back to January -- the 31st. Now, the Trop/Doubletree website says the 10th, which is today. Consider us officially confused.

A return to the website at 1 p.m. PST found that, yes, reservations are finally being accepted via DoubleTree. After poking around the site, room rates appear to start at $59 a night. When we checked rates on Tropicana's website last week, rates were starting around the $54.99 mark. A $19.95 resort fee is also still in effective.

On the plus side, guests will be able to use and earn Hilton Honors points for their stay. There's also those infamous hot cookies at check in. If you get there before us, let us know if they're everything you've heard them to be.

HHonors

Can't wait to hear what happens to folks with the various HHonors status levels.  I'm personally a Gold (and trying ever so hard for Diamond!) and sometimes get extra perks on a property-by-property basis that they choose to extend to Gold members.

Also interested how the guaranteed benefits will shake out.  Upgrades; free internet (resort fee reduction?) to name a few.

Likely Disappointed

HHonors Gold and Diamond members are likely to feel ripped out if they stay at the Trop.  Over at FlyerTalk, a representative from the Tropicana first announced no resort fees for Gold or Diamond.  That made sense, as the two big ticket items in the resort fee (Internet and gym access) are free for elite HHonors folks.

A few days later, that PR person returned and announced that everyone has to pay the resort fee.  Diamonds also will not have concierge lounge access.  Plus, they'll have to pay for an upgrade from the continental breakfast.

Players Club?

Have not had a players club offer or email for anytime after April yet. Maybe they cut stuff with this whole mash up.
