Runners Colored Downtown, Will Next Bathe It With Awesome

February 22, 2013 at 2:44 PM | by | Comments (0)

The happiest 5K on the planet made its way from Australia to Las Vegas last weekend and left downtown painted in hues of orange, yellow, green, and purple. The Color Run course never touched Fremont proper, instead sending runners through residential neighborhoods and past pawn shops, antique stores, and bail bondsmen while getting shot in every orifice (or at least that's what it seemed like) with colored powders. And, it was amazing fun for 8,000 participants. One might shrink at the idea of tourists running outside the casino district downtown, but there were some cute and historical buildings mixed in with a lot of potential. We heart a colorful downtown even more.

For those that missed the Color Run (actually more of a Color Walk from what we saw, but that's ok, too!), there are a couple other upcoming opportunities to amaze through our Downtown bubble.

MJ and Prince unveil their cover of "In Your Eyes."

Awesome 80's Run
Saturday, March 2 8 a.m.
Costumes, roller skates, hula hoops anad pogo sticks are encouraged in this 5 and 10K that keeps it awesome with a cassette tape-shaped finisher's medal. Registration prior to race day is $50 for the 5K and $55 for the 10K. Visit the event's Facebook page for more info and other non-Vegas locations.

Dirty girls welcome.

Bubble Run
Saturday, April 27 9 a.m.
White tees, bathing suits, and costumes are invited to a downtown bath in Bubble Run's 5K where runners, walkers, strollers and rollers will be doused with colored bubbles and foam. Bubble bogs keep the frothy party going every kilometer. Entry is $40 ($35 as part of a team) through March 13 before increasing up to race day. Visit the event's website for more info and to register.

While we pick out the last bits of color from last weekend's run from areas that shouldn't be yellow or green, enjoy a peek at the Color Run's finish line madness for an idea of how downtown parties:

And, here's a better view of the colored aftermath that may have created the hallucination of a dancing unicorn:
